A Gentle Giant of the Ring.

I currently live in Sudbury, Ontario and have three children; two daughters and a son. Lindsay is 23, Andrew 21 and Meghan 16. I am a retired high school teacher, having taught my entire career in the Sudbury area. Although my degree from the University of Guelph is in Human Kinetics, I spent most of my working career teaching Mathematics and Computer Science.

I was a grade ten transfer to King City when the school first opened in 1961. Since my parents lived across the street from the school (at the corner King & William Streets), participating in varsity athletics was an easy fit for me. Rugby, football and wrestling were my favourite sports. In 1966, coached by Mr. Dave Clutchey, I finished 2nd at the OFSAA wrestling championships. At university, I won four CIAU and four AAU wrestling titles, and represented Canada in the Pan-American, the Commonwealth, the Olympics and the World Championships between 1967 and 1970. I won a bronze medal at the Pan Am Games held in Winnipeg in 1967, finished 8th in the Mexico City Olympics in 1968, 4th in the Worlds at Mar Del Plata, Argentina in 1969, and won Gold in the 1970 Commonwealth Games in Edinbrough, Scotland.

On the national scene I captured the Canadian Junior wrestling crown in 1967 and was Canadian Open champion from 1967 to 1970. In addition, I have had the honour of being inducted into the Canadian Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2002, and the University of Guelph Sports Hall of Fame.

I retired from wrestling when I moved to Sudbury but continued to be involved in sports as an organizer and coach. Presently I coach and convene volleyball and am active in results for track and field and a major dragon boat festival.

My memories of King City are fond ones. The teachers as a whole were eager and involved and at that time young! It was their devotion that led me to choose a career in education. I would like to thank my high school for the honour of considering me for this induction, and the pleasure of providing me with a positive, nurturing environment in my formative teenage years.
