Loredana Cunti is an award-winning children’s book author and producer of children’s programming. Her journey in entertainment began at KCSS from when a theater group from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson) set her on the path to becoming an executive producer and writer, creating characters and imaginative worlds for children. Throughout her career, Loredana has worked on acclaimed animated programs like Maisy Mouse, Sitting Ducks, Woody Woodpecker, and Pink Panther. She has been recognized as one of the Top 25 Women in Animation by Animation Magazine and contributed to articles on children’s entertainment in The Wall Street Journal, National Post, and others.
After graduating, Loredana interned at CHIN Multicultural Radio before joining CIAO Radio 530AM as head of marketing. She transitioned into radio advertising sales to become the National Sales representative at Malofilm Entertainment, selling films worldwide. When her company purchased an animation studio, she discovered her love for children’s television and so began selling animated programs globally.
In 1997, Loredana moved to England as the Head of Children’s Programming for Polygram Filmed Entertainment. Following a merger, she joined Universal Studios as the Head of Children’s Programming, producing several successful television shows, digital games. While in that position, she gained invaluable insights from diverse cultures on educating and entertaining children. In 2003, Loredana founded Loreworks Ltd., becoming a creative entrepreneur and children’s programming consultant for esteemed entertainment companies and organizations such as MGM Studios, Universal Studios, Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Wētā Workshop, Ontario Media Development Agency, Singapore Media Development Agency, Rubicon Animation in Jordan and more. In 2009, Loredana went back to school to be a different sort of producer, becoming a qualified pastry chef at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris.
In 2012 she returned to Canada to pivot from worldwide travel to raising children. Inspired by her children’s experiences, she pursued her passion for writing, becoming an award-winning author exploring themes of confidence, perseverance, and resilience. First published at 48 years of age, she has written a series of junior non-fiction books with Canada’s space walking record holder, Dr. Dave Williams. In 2020 she was awarded a Junior Library Guild Gold Award for picture book Karate Kakapo. In 2023, through her own imprint, Loredana published Butterflies Dance Too, co-written with National Ballet of Canada’s Prima Ballerina Tina Pereira.
Loredana enjoys doing author visits at elementary schools. Inspired by her picture books, she has put on several community events. She has collaborated with Girl Guides of Canada to promote empowerment through physical activity, as well as spoken at international conferences such as Kidscreen, Cartoons On The Bay, and Women In Stem. Loredana is a member of CANSCAIP, Women In Film and has served on advisory boards including TIFF Kids.
She attributes valuable lessons in teamwork, perseverance, and discipline to her extra-curricular coaches at KCSS. In that vein, Loredana volunteers as a soccer coach; she also volunteers as a cooking coach through StepStones For Youth, combining her passion for culinary traditions with her belief in the transformative power of cooking to help foster life skills among youth.
