Mike was raised in Kleinburg, Ontario and attended King City Secondary School from 1985-1990. He was most often found on the sporting fields, gyms and track representing our school, most notably competing in 5 consecutive York Region Football Championships, 3 Metro Bowl appearances and the southern Ontario All Star Game. He also competed in 3 different disciplines and the OFSSA Track and Field finals.

After degrees from Fanshawe College and the University of Toronto, Mike headed west to Calgary to work at the Foothills Hospital diagnostic imaging department and soon found the legacy of the 1988 Winter Olympic Games. Eager to get involved at some level he joined the national Bobsleigh and Skeleton program in 2004 where he began competing provincially and swiftly rose to international status competing for Canada. By 2007 he had become a permanent fixture on the World Cup tour and amassed 8 top 10 finishes before qualifying for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver/Whistler.

Mike’s personal message to current students at KCSS —

“To represent your family, town and country on the world’s biggest amateur athletic stage conjures great emotions but it was magnified many fold by hosting the world and showcasing our spirit and pride to all.

To be an Olympian embodies hard work, dedication and tremendous support, therefore it is with the utmost of gratitude that I commend the teachers, students and spirit of KCSS which has given me the confidence to tackle all opportunities and challenges demanded on my journey.”
